Definition
Production planning is a subarea of operational production management. It involves drawing up a precise description of the manufacturing process and ensuring that production processes run smoothly and efficiently at the same time. In doing so, production planning takes into account factors such as the availability of equipment and materials, customer delivery requirements and maintenance schedules. Production planning is followed by production control after order release.
