SMART-Rule

Definition

Summarizes the guidance for the pertinent formulation of goals and specifications in a simple manner. Here S-M-A-R-T means:

S – Specific: Goals/Objectives are to be worded in a precise, distinct and situation-oriented manner

M – Measurable: Goals/Objectives should preferable be expressed numerically (Alpha-numerically) in order to provide orientation and to be verifiable

A – Attractive: Goals/Objectives need to be task-related and influenceable

R – Realistic: Goals/Objectives need to be ambitious, but still achievable

T – Terminable: Goals/Objectives need to contain exact dates (start- intermediate- and end dates)
