Workload

Definition

The totality of measurable influences acting on the physiological and/or psychological state of a person during work; characterized in more detail by the type, level and duration of the influence or condition. Influencing factors can be, for example, the severity of the work, the body position or the work requirements (see also DIN EN ISO 6385). Occurs at every work and is the same for all persons performing the same tasks. It is characterized by measurable load variables (e.g. force exerted 10 N) or by qualitative load factors (e.g. displays placed awkwardly). The term is used in a value-free way. Correctly measured load strengthens and promotes people; load that is not sufficiently adapted to their performance capacity, on the other hand, causes incorrect load with mostly unfavorable consequences, e.g. for health or quality. Resulting incorrect actions (e.g. incorrect operation) also influence the equipment or the work process. Workloads can require recovery times or, depending on the type and level, load allowances.
