Waste

Definition

Characterises the improper or inefficient use of resources (capacity, work time, qualification), e.g. as a result of high inventories, faulty products, impractical work processes. They interfere with the economic success of the company and may demotivate if identified waste is not quickly eliminated. As typical types of waste are, for example, over-production, inventories, transport, waiting times, defects/rework.
