Work system

Definition

Operational performance unit that encompasses the following:

  • one person (or more)
  • the operating means used to carry out the work
  • material and information
  • the existing prerequisites

Work systems are the physical building blocks of every organisation and its operational processes and thus hold a key position in REFA’s process oriented work organisation. Work system models are used to describe tasks, for example within training (work design, process organization, work system design). According to DIN EN ISO 6385:2004, a work system “…involves a combination of people and equipment, within a given space and environment, and the interactions between these components within a work organization.”
