Quantity of all units (objects, events, data) with matching characteristics on which a statistical observation is based. In REFA time studies, for example, the sum of all process segments in which the process segment under investigation occurs is referred to as the basic population, and in multi-moment recordings the total number of notations of all recorded events. → sample
