The Schaeffler Group is a globally operating automotive and industrial supplier and has also been actively operating in China since 1995 as Schaeffler (China) Co.. At its headquarters in Taicang, a modern metropolis in the province of Jiangsu, about 50 km northwest of Shanghai, the company is one of largest employers with its five plants and several branches.
Here, just as everywhere else in the world, it is paramount to optimise production processes to increase their efficiency and avoid waste. As part of the staff development within the Schaeffler Industrial Engineering division, REFA International AG conducted a two-week seminar, attended by eleven junior managers, on "Methods of Time Data Determination" in English.
The focus was on determining the relevant process data and the opportunities for efficiency enhancement; process analysis, time data determination, activity sampling, set-up time optimisation and the optimisation of the value chain by identifying and minimizing unproductive process steps and non-value-adding procedures were looked at in depth.
The level of knowledge and the success rate of knowledge transfer was documented by a written exam at the end, in which the extremely interested and highly motivated Chinese participants scored well above the average. Finally, a project work, conducted in groups, aiming at process optimisation had to be completed. The presentation of the results was the conclusion to a very well received training and rounded off the very positively evaluated seminar.
